Getting organized can be one of the most boring mundane things to do. One technique that is talked about in some of our meetings is the best way to get a better handle on controlling time. Time, as a independent business person is vitally important.

I have used several methods to “focus” my time on the current task before I moved onto another or walked away from the one I was doing to take a break get, a cup of coffee ect.

One of me my favorite online “business instructors” Rich Schefren, mentioned the egg timer. It was not his idea but it was an idea the was recommended to him and he passed it on to me.

Start a task with one of those old white “cooking” timers that you wind up next to you. Set it to one hour. And do not waiver from the the task you are working on. don’t get up don’t open email just “focus” on that one task. Don’t even get up to use the bathroom until the timer goes off. Once that timer rings, take a 10 minute break… Once again setting the timer to 10 minutes.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat

I tried this technique, as best as I could for several months and it did work. I got more done in a shorter amount of time.

But, there always seemed to be one problem, the look back. The look back is when you take a look at what you have done over the past day, week, month, year. I had nothing. Well, nothing written. Nothing I could hold onto and look. Nothing concrete.

March 2010

Back in March, Ken Reno introduced Action Machine Pro. I thought of it as modern day egg timer. I thought, what if this tool helped me me accomplish 5% more throughout the day then I already do? Is it worth it? The answer is absolutely! And it did. And it does.

But it does much more then that too! AMP also, stores what I’ve done for reporting so I can review my accomplishments in seconds. I no longer have to create a separate spreadsheet of completed tasks and try to remember to check off what I have done. It is all done for me inside AMP.

Now, like all things, it does take about an hour to understand exactly how it works and setting it up to your liking but WOW! It truly is a lifesaver in my book and it’s not just for “business related tasks either!

This is totally on my recommendation list. And NO, it’s not $100. It’s not even $50. It’s only $27 and it’s like giving yourself a raise. You will get more done everyday then you do today. And the more you do, typically the more you’ll make.

My wife loves it too! Not for her but for us. LOL last night she added a task when I was out “Wife time”. At 7:55p the alarm went off and and my next task pooped up…. I got the message and we had a great evening. Winky wink!
